Who we are<\/h2>\n

We are an initiative for monitoring and reporting Pereira’s contribution to the local accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a result of the cooperation between the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)<\/a>, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)<\/a>, the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE)<\/a>, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ)<\/a> and Pereira C\u00f3mo Vamos<\/a>, we present this open data platform as a contribution for the local implementation of the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n

Pereira Sustainable Territory was designed using the Tracking Progress<\/a> tool. Essentially, this tool was designed by IISD to create Community Indicator Systems<\/a> with ease. As it was designed as a scalable and low-cost tool, it is useful for organisations, communities, and local governments for delivering monitoring and reporting strategies on sustainability.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Our purpose<\/h2>\n

We recognise the necessity of implementing open data platforms for divulging and socially appropriating local advances in sustainability. Moreover, we understand that the SDGs are a framework that allows for comparing and joining efforts between different territories.<\/p>\n

We aim to support citizen engagement by bringing access to information related to territorial development and sustainability. Therefore, Pereira Sustainable Territory is an open data infrastructure<\/a> for everyone, including managers, communicators, and researchers on sustainability from around the world.<\/p>\n

The effectiveness of data infrastructure lies in its openness to use, which lies at the heart of the \u201csmart cities\u201d\u00a0 community and the movement to align urbanisation [or territorial management] with ecological sustainability. Open data is data that is publicly available to openly use and share.

As a result, this platform is thought of as a site for monitoring and reporting Pereira’s advances on sustainability from the perspective of the SDGs. In this sense, we hope to share not only a set of well-being indicators but to make them clearer using visual and interactive strategies, while mapping those indicators to the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The origin of our indicators<\/h2>\n

How our indicators were selected?<\/h3>\n

To nourish our platform we started from the database of Pereira C\u00f3mo Vamos<\/a>. We checked every indicator in the database and selected those that 1) were more relevant to the site based on our judgement, 2) could take more advantage of the platform’s visualization types<\/a>, and 3) had relative data (percentages of a total) instead of absolute information (fixed amounts). However, it was not always possible to report information with data in relative terms. As a result, some of our indicators are expressed in absolute quantities.<\/p>\n

How are the indicators mapped to the SDGs and their targets?<\/h3>\n

Our indicators were manually mapped to the SDGs<\/a> based on the judgement and experience of the researchers from the SEI’s 2030 Agenda Research Area<\/a>. The results account for the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda related to each indicator. This mapping uses the platform’s function of linking the indicators to the SDGs and their targets, including the description for each goal and the titles of each target.<\/p>\n

Which entities feed our database?<\/h3>\n

Although our indicators are sourced by Pereira C\u00f3mo Vamos, not all of them are produced by this organization. Our platform includes both the indicators from the Quality of Life Reports<\/a> and the Citizen Perception Surveys<\/a>. On one hand, those from the first group have their primary source on institutions such as Pereira’s Secretariat of Planning, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), the Autonomous Regional Corporation of Risaralda (CARDER), Pereira’s Secretariat of Infrastructure, the National Police, and the Ministry of Health, among others. On the other hand, the indicators sourced by the Citizen Perception Surveys are produced by Pereira C\u00f3mo Vamos on annually-produced surveys.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
